Amsterdam
It was many moons ago that I visited this fine city. Not much has changed by all accounts which is a very good thing. If you are young and/or a party person, Amsterdam is the place to visit. Needless to say I remember very little of the trip and that was during IT and not because old age has set in. There are a good number of things to fill your days here, until the night-time fun starts. I kind of remember walking a hangover off by traipsing around a market or two. Amsterdam is a very beautiful city, with its canals, museums and street side cafes. The Netherlands is small enough of a country, that most parts of it can be reach on a day trip from Amsterdam on the train.
The only real downside to Amsterdam are the groups of drunken British men there on Stag weekends.
Scheveningen
The are some fine beaches for the warmer weather. Scheveningen is very popular, and even has a pier. It is very close to The Hague so gets very crowded at weekends.
